At KCA, we understand that continuous improvement is the key to meeting the educational needs of our current and future students. Our development program is designed to secure the resources needed to implement facilities improvement, and to provide for the growth of the student population that is expected in our growing community. In August of 2004, KCA took a giant step towards fulfilling our dream of providing the best educational opportunity in the Southern Maryland area, as the doors of our new Callaway campus were opened for the first time. The new campus vision is not yet complete; there are elements of the facility that are still under construction, such as the stage in the gym, and athletic fields. Also, a chapel and an expanded High School section are envisioned. The future is bright for the families of Southern Maryland who are seeking a Christian education alternative. However, excellence comes at a price. In order to fulfill this vision of excellence, and to keep our educational opportunity affordable for the community, KCA's development program maintains a number of giving options that are designed to support the current and future construction plans, to support academic and extracurricular programs, and to provide tuition assistance for students who are in financial need.
Described below are some of the giving options administered by the Development Program. Please take the time to read about them, and prayerfully consider how you can help maintain and improve the Christian educational opportunities that KCA provides for the Southern Maryland community.
Above: The main campus at Callaway, MD. The structure is built on a 193 acre property, located on Route 5 in Callaway, just east of the intersection of Route 5 and MD 249. This facility includes:
- 41,000 square feet

- science and computer labs
- art and music studios
- gymnasium with full size theatrical stage area

Construction continues under the current development phase as we work towards finishing the stage area, the playground area, and the athletic fields. Development Program
Melinda Williamson, KCA Director of Development. Melinda can answer your questions concerning the various development programs at KCA. She can be reached at the Office of Development, 301-994-3083, ext 224. Below is a list of the ongoing funds that support the daily operations of KCA, as well as provide for future program and facility expansions. If one of these programs interests you, call Melinda and ask her how you can help. Help can come in four ways; financial, gift-in-kind, volunteer, and prayer support. All are needed, and each one helps KCA to shape the lives of young men and women according to Godly principles, and conversely helps to build a better community for all the people of Southern Maryland.
KCA also accepts financial help in forms other than cash gifts. Examples include donated securities, gifts-in-kind (products or services), and corporate gift matching from a donor's employer. Most major corporations, and many smaller companies, have a gift matching program; as a 501(c)3 institution, KCA typically qualifies for most corporate programs. Gift matching has been a major component of our recent capital campaigns.
Giving Opportunities:
Annual Fund: The Annual Fund is designated each year to support either ongoing school operations or to fund a special project. Each year, the Board of Directors designates a special project, or list of projects, that the proceeds from the Annual Fund will underwrite. Past examples included furnishings, playground equipment, finishing the gym, technology upgrades, etc. Also, gifts given to the Annual Fund may be specified by the donor to fund projects of special interest to the donor.
Financial Aid Endowment Fund/Sponsor-a-Student: The financial aid endowment fund (FAEF )is an endowment fund designed to underwrite the costs of education for needy KCA students on a perpetual basis. Gifts to the FAEF are deposited in the endowment and their earnings are used to pay a portion of a needy student's tuition. Students are determined eligible for financial aid if their personal financial situation meets the criteria established by the School Board of Directors. Gifts to "Sponsor a Student" are used to help needy students directly. The full amount given normally is used in the year it is given to cover a portion of a needy student's tuition.
Athletic Fund: We believe that a full extra-curricular program, including athletics, is extremely important in providing our students with a complete educational environment. A quality athletic program comes at a cost; rental and maintenance of facilities, uniforms, costs of officiating, compensation for coaches, equipment, etc. KCA does charge a fee to participating students, but it is our opinion that participation should not be out of the reach of any student do to excessive cost. As a result, KCA maintains the athletic fund to allow interested friends of the school to help in the ongoing cost of operating the sports program.
Memorials and Honorariums: Donors often give gifts in honor of friends of the school who have passed on. Gifts may be unspecified, or designated for a function that was important to the deceased.
